Today we got our engagement photos taken.
We had set aside two tentative weekends, this and the next, to give ourselves a couple of options to catching good weather (or at least no wind or heavy rain). Because the weather can be so unpredictable, sometimes you have to wait until the last-minute to decide whether it is a go or not.
Our photographer is used to shooting outdoors and is no stranger to having to wait until the very last-minute. We kept in touch via text and email and decided that today was going to work. The weather wasn’t likely going to be better next weekend. It could actually be worse. Also, if we had waited, all of the great fall leaves may not be in the trees anymore.
At the last-minute we had to change our venue. We had planned to take photos at Woodland Park but we forgot that there was a big cyclocross race going on there today. It would have been to crowded and muddy there so we decided on the Washington Park Arboretum instead.
As with any time you are getting your picture taken by a photographer, the first few photos are awkward. You aren’t sure where you are supposed to look, exactly what the photographer wants to see or how to “act natural” when you are really contriving poses to make a good photo. I am sure our first photos looked really weird.
After a while you start to relax though. It helps that our photographer is our friend because you already feel more at ease than you would with a stranger and also you can have a real and casual conversation during the shooting.
In the end I think we got some really good ones. We started to have more fun and be more silly towards the end. Those last photos will probably be the most natural looking of the bunch. We were also able to squeeze in a few photos of us with Chester and Gretel and a few in a more urban setting.
It will take 3 to 4 weeks for us to get the finished photos but from the little bit I saw on the camera I think they are going to be great. I am really excited to see them!
Yet another wedding task complete 🙂
